An ABC Primer Card

I have been hoarding my An ABC Primer paper pack in anticipation of the baby's first day of school, which will happen four years from now. lol! :-)  I prepared a card to give to a teacher.  I used a dictionary page for my background paper and I folded the corner to make it dog-eared.  I have a small flash card that I trimmed and a red cardstock peeking under the fold.  The main image and the small arithmetic flash cards are from An ABC Primer.  I flanked the flash cards with tiny black buttons.  The large number 2 is from Pink Paislee.  I used a red checked washi tape and a washi tape with a measuring tape design at the bottom of the card to pick up the reds in the main image.  I hope Kenzo Gunner's kindergarten teacher will like this card. :-D

Pink and Brown Create Banner

I was inspired to make a "CREATE" banner to match the pink and brown top hat.  I used DCWV, SEI paper and Whisper Pink cardstock from Stampin' Up that I embossed using Spots and Dots Cuttlebug folder.   Jen made me a Christmas banner using this shape and I loved it so much that I decided to use the same Sizzix die for this banner.

I used the Story Book cartridge for the fonts, which measure 2 3/4" and Spellbinders dies for the ovals and scalloped ovals.  I added brown pearls using Viva Decor Pearl Pen.  The ribbon is from Hobby Lobby and I decorated the "pennants" with Prima flowers, washi tape and heart-shaped polka-dot buttons.

Top Hat Tutorial

I made this top hat using my Gypsy to design it and the Plantin' Schoolbook cartridge.  The inner circle measures 3 1/2" and the outer circle measures 6".  It should have the appearance of a doughnut.  Cut the circles twice.

To make the sides, cut a strip of designer paper measuring 4"x12".  Score at 1/2" and 3 1/2".  Cut out tabs at approximately 1/2 inch increments.  Fold the bottom tabs outward and the upper tabs inward.

Glue the bottom tabs to the larger circle (the "doughnut"), and cover the tabs with the other large circle.  This is to ensure that the brim will be sturdy.  Glue the small circle to the top.  Trim the other small circle and glue it inside the hat.  I used a paper clip to hold the side in place while the glue is drying, and also to ensure that the side of the hat fits nicely to the brim.

I used paper from DCWV for this hat.  I added pink and cream tulle, a Prima flower, a stickpin from Denise :-) and I punched a butterfly using a punch from Martha Stewart.  I added brown pearls at the center of the butterfly using Viva Decor pearl pen. 

On the other side of the hat, I added a tortoiseshell button tied with baker's twine.

Graphic 45 Top Hat

Our challenge theme at My Sheri Crafts is "Back and Forth", a term that we use for accordion-style pleats, rosettes and even pleated paper strips.  I decided to make a top hat embellished with a flower collar.   I used paper from Graphic 45's Once Upon a Springtime paper pack.

To make the flower collar, cut approximately 9 inches of lace, then make pleats measuring 1/2".   Secure the inner side of the collar by stitching it close.  Glue on a flower on top of the collar.

The hat which measures 4" high and is 6" in diameter was embellished with hand dyed lace and vintage ephemera from my stash.  The stickpin was from Tammy.  The rose is from recollection and the feathers are from Michael's.  I used lace from Prima for the flower collar.    I will have a tutorial for the top hat, so do check out my next post! :-)

Tropical Travelogue Altered Canvas

This is another project that I made for my swap partner.  She loves the beach and I wanted something that will bring happy memories about the beach.  I got the "canvas" from the dollar store.  I used quotation marks when referring to it since the material is not exactly canvas, but more like thin awning material.  I used paper from Graphic 45's Tropical Travelogue paper pack. 

The rolled sinamay, the hat as well as the miniature shells are from the Philippines.  I used bright-colored hydrangeas from Prima and a pink butterfly from Recollections.   The large shell is from a potpourri pack.
                                    
I added Stickles on the main image and inked the edges of that stamps.  Tim Holtz tissue tape was added along the edges of the frame to complete the look.

Coffee Subway Art

My swap partner requested for subway art and she also loves coffee, so here's what I came up with.  The background paper is from Bazzill and I used various brown designer paper from DCWV and Melissa Frances for the fonts.  I used the following Cricut cartridges for the cuts:

I added chalk to the background for a more textured look.

Steampunk Debutante Shadow Box

I altered this shadow box for a swap at the Cricut message board.  I used paper from Graphic 45's Steampunk Debutante paper pack.  The plain cream background paper was from DCWV and I stamped it with stamps from Graphic 45 and created a butterfly border at the top.  I also added some butterflies at the backround paper to customize it even further.  The grungeboard gears and large clock were cut using Tim Holtz dies and I added some Tim Holtz metal gears on the centers.  The clock is flanked on the left by a metal butterfly from Graphic 45 that I embossed using an embossing folder from Tim Holtz.  To the right of the clock is a butterfly with a clock face from my stash.  To jazz up the steampunk lady's look, I added feathers from Michael's and pearl wings from ZVA Creative.  The metal clasps were received from a swap (thanks to Honey Cat's mom!) .  The pearl heart is from Recollections and the red rose is from Prima.  The images were all pop-dotted for added dimension.
