My Version of Tim Holtz's Curio Cabinet

I went to Tim Holtz's class last Sunday. The project was for a curio cabinet http://timholtz.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/05/the-artful-curio.html. I do not necessarily subscribe to the darker colors, so I made my own modifications. My theme colors were peach, coral and sunset orange. I also highlighted the edges inside the cabinet with copper-colored ink from ColorBox. I know, I cheated and used some non-Ranger products, but hey...for opaque inking, nothing compares to ColorBox inks. The hands and the knob kept on falling off--so I just used Gorilla Glue for them.

The title of this piece is "Fractured Love".

Spontaneous ideas were encouraged during the class, but I wanted to create something that would have special meaning to hubby and I, hence the choice of paper and trinkets. His favorite number is 7 and mine is 8, and there are several 3s in the projects, since I was born on March 30th. Tim gave us free rein over the little treasures he had on the huge table, but I opted to use some embellishments from my stash--the Art Nouveau Fairy, the miniature medallions, flowers(grunge rose and Primas), and the crystal squirrel.

I filled the bottle up with half a dropper of Worn Lipstick, mixed with water. Vanilla is supposed to be an aphrodisiac, so I labeled it as such. :-) The cigar label is just for a touch of color.

At the back of the cabinet is a piece of bingo card with the numbers 74 and 75--he was born in '74 and I on '75. I was also lucky to get hold of a music book page with my favorite song in it, "Hosea". There is a vintage picture of a couple and a map. I absolutely love the page from a vintage French journal that I incorporated into the mix. The whole cabinet was inked using Victorian Velvet, Barn Door, Aged Mahogany, Antique Linen and Vintage Photo.

Of course, I used a piece of paper with a cat in it.

I used Tim Holtz's tissue tape for the edges of the box.
