Cricut Cards for this week

For this week's challenge, we had more freedom with the third sketch.

For my first card, I tilted the square just slightly to the left. The image that popped on my mind was Frosty, holding a gift. I used Christmas Cheer cartridge. The snowman and the gift were cut at 2". I drew on the snowman's face and hat and paper pieced the arms and body. Paper used is from K&Co and the ribbon is from Offray. I used the reverse side for the embossing to create at "hollow sculpture" effect. Embossing folder used was "Snowflakes". I used mica flakes for my horizontal lines to depict snow.



For the second card, I used Christmas Cheer again for the ornaments, cut at 2". Paper is from K&Co. Mint ice stickles were used for a little sparkle on the ornaments. I used Snow Dots embossing folder for the background.



I gave the third card to my husband this morning. He was wonderful enough to attend sewing class with me despite knowing that he'll get ribbed by his friends. I did not want to go by myself and he agreed when I asked him if he can go with me. The stamp is from Inkadinkado, the paper is from MAMBI, and for the fonts, I used Blackletter cut at 1". The cardstock that I used measured 6x11, and was scored at 1 1/2", 1 1/2", 2 1/2", 2 1/2", and 3". The heart-printed vellum paper was attached to the cardstock using heart brads. For the center oval, nestabilities and Hearts embossing folder were used.

Logan's Page

Logan likes to keep his paws crossed. I took several pictures prior to him being declawed. A lot of people think that declawing is inhumane, but there were several instances in the past that influenced our decision. Logan plays with the bed skirt, and his paws used to get caught a lot. He would be stuck there, unable to free himself unless we helped him out. Our dining room chair nearly toppled over him several times because his claws would get caught in the fabric. He is 100% indoor only. We are keeping him throughout his entire lifetime, since he is an important part of the family.

Circut challenge this week

I have been participating in the card forum at www.cricut.com since the early part of September, and it was addicting! I'm glad that the sketches get released on Wednesdays. At least, I could get everything done before Project Runway night.

Here are the sketches and my interpretation of them.....

My inspiration for the first card is the character Aragog in Harry Potter and his multitude of children. Aragog is pointing at the word "Boo", in an attempt to teach his children how to be scary, but one child got distracted by the spider web on its side.

Instead of flowers, I had the spiders and I turned the stems upside down so I could leave a trail of spider web. I chose the neutrals black, white and silver. It's very Black Sabbath.




For the second sketch, I used the theme of butterflies and purple again. Purple is a spiritual color, while butterflies are "flighty". I like the mix of contrasting ideas in one page. I colored the butterfly with chalk first, then applied a thin layer of color using pencils, and blended it with odorless mineral spirit.



The third card has different shades of peach. The middle part has a bright shade of orange, to keep the attention to the middle. The flower was my first attempt at using colored pencils and odorless mineral spirit. The printed paper at the bottom is another leftover piece of paper from my wedding scrapbook.

Butterfly Card

I had been given two specific requests when I made these cards: butterflies and the color purple. The butterflies are cut at 2". I used the bloom dots embossing folder and the paper is from MAMBI.

Photo Box

I made this box for my husband's uncle. I had no template for it, so I just estimated the score lines. I used a 9x12 double-sided paper. I scored an inch vertically on both sides, then at 4", and 5" horizontally. I finished the box off with leftover paper, a piece of ribbon and a sticker that I pop dotted for added dimension.

Halloween Fluffles

I created a batch of these cards for the troops. I saved a couple for family. I colored Fluffles with the Joann brand of markers. It was funny because my husband and I were talking one time about my Fluffles stamps, and he commented that my cards were cute. Our cat, Logan kept on "answering" every time we mentioned "Fluffles." He is just as funny and cute as the character Fluffles.

Cricut Cards

I had finally finished posting on the Cricut website these three cards. These were the sketches that they were based on:



I drew the features on the snowman. I positioned him so that it would seem as if he is catching the falling letters. I glued some mica under him to emulate snow.



I drew Santa's features and beard on the second card. I positioned the gift so that it would appear as if he was holding it.



For the third card, I used handmade paper from India. The teeny tiny Christmas tree was fun to decorate. The sentiment for the third card was the same as the second one, with some modifications. I did not ink the candy cane, but instead, placed a star where it was supposed to be.



All three cards were made using the Christmas Cheer cartridge.

Blue Angel

I based this card from Tami Mayberry's sketch on the CPS website.




One of the girls at work has a loved one stationed in Iraq, and I thought this sentiment was very fitting since we all look forward to our troops coming home safe. I used the crystal flourish to mimic music coming out of the angel's trumpet. Homecomings are always a cause for celebration.

Fall Card

Today is my first month anniversary in making cards. In order to celebrate it, I went blog-hopping and decided to join some challenges.

This card was based on Kazan's sketch at 2 Sketches 4 You.





The colors were based on the theme for this week from Our Creative Challenge.


I also made an envelope for the card. I did not have a template for it, so I just eyeballed my measurements.



Maple leaf patterns were stamped all over the plaid paper. It is more visible when you see the card in person. On the monitor, it looks very subtle. The leafy patterned paper is from MAMBI, the plaid paper is a leftover piece from 3 years back, and the stamp is from Great Impressions. I chose not to color the stamped image because I wanted the contrast between the sepia tones and the white to standout against the busy patterns. I finished the card off with a strip of ribbon, a piece of fiber with fall colors, and three scrolls with different metallic finishes.

Another Diaper Cake!

This was my second diaper cake. I made this for Alishia a couple of months back. I'm still trying to catch up on posting all my crafts. lol! The theme for her diaper cake was "Bears and Flowers." And of course....the shoes! A baby girl is never too young to start her training on becoming a diva.

Passionate Purple

Cheryl and Carine gave me a lot of creative freedom in decorating their goggles. Cheryl mentioned that "blue, purple or pink would be fine." Why not use all three? I think this goggles is far from being a shrinking violet. I layered navy blue and lilac glitter on the over sized flowers. You can see the details of the flower petals in real life if you look at it closely. It has a lot of personality, so I named it "Passionate Purple."

I love using ink as a medium because it has a luminosity and iridescence that paint does not have.

Autumn Splendor

Carine wanted me to jazz up her goggles as well. Small red flowers were stamped randomly using pigment ink, and scrolls were drawn freehand to finish the look. I decided to use gold, copper, amber and rust on her goggles, hence the name "Autumn Splendor."

We were given goggles at work in preparation for the flu season, and were encouraged to customize them. We were given fabric paint at work, but I wanted to use ink on mine, so I waited until I got home to start working on it. I love glam rock, teal and pink, so here's the end result. I call my goggles "Cinderella on Speed".

This week's cards

I made three Christmas-themed cards this week for the Cricut website. The first card is retro-looking. I used mulberry paper and stuck with the traditional red and green colors of Christmas. I had to finish drawing the holly freehand since I did not like the way I stamped it, and I know I'll only mess it up if I stamped over it again. I love the combination of pale ice blue and silver, so I used them in both cards. I stamped the word "Angel" in the ice blue cardstock to customize it a little bit.

Diaper Cake

This is the first diaper cake that I made last June using my Cricut Expression. I gave this to Alex, one of the girls that I work with. I made the baby shoes out of double-sided printed cardstock. They have a pattern for it at the splitcoaststampers website. The theme for this cake is "Flowers and Butterflies."

Cards for troops

Today, I mailed 25 cards for cardsforheroes.org. I used Italian Rose and a retired Stampin' Up stamp for the all-occasion cards. There are no duplicates for the all-occasion cards, only for the ones for Halloween. I'll post the Halloween cards next time ;-).
