A Birthday Fish from Pearl Tidepool

Hubby will be turning 36 on Sunday. He is probably my biggest fan...lol! This card is for him. I also entered it at 7 kids' college fund card challenge http://7kidschallengeblog.blogspot.com/2010/10/challenge-7-birthdays.html.

The image is Pearl Tidepool. I used paper from Bazzill, DCWV's Linen Stack and Ambrosia from Basic Grey. The corals were made using Martha Stewart's branch punch. The frames were cut using Spellbinders. To keep with an authentic island theme, I used sinamay for the background. It's a fiber woven from Manila hemp, found in abundance in the Philippines. The shells that I used to form the flowers are also from the Philippines. I used my Cuttlebug folders--Spots and Dots, D'vine Swirl and Koi for the dry embossing. Crystals and pearls are from Recollections. I used Mermaid, Icicle and Tiara Stickles to make the image pop.

I wanted Pearl to have the coloring of an island girl and had to make adjustments with the Copic colors that I used. I emphasized her eyes by adding eyelashes, irises and I darkened the outline as well. I had fun channeling my inner Impressionist with her tail. :-D
